Recital: Cate Byrne '22, Contemporary Improvisation
NEC's students meet one-on-one each week with a faculty artist to perfect their craft. As each one leaves NEC to make their mark in the performance world, they present a full, professional recital that is free and open to the public. It's your first look at the artists of tomorrow.

I cannot begin to express what these past four years
at New England Conservatory have meant to me.
I have grown so much as a musician and a person
and am filled with gratitude for every faculty member and fellow student
I had the privilege of learning from.
I would especially like to thank my studio teachers during my time at NEC:
Carla Kihlstedt, Eden MacAdam-Somer, Lautaro Mantilla,
Hankus Netsky, Bert Seeger, and Mark Zaleski.
Special thanks also goes to Ran Blake for his mentorship and inspiration.
My whole family has been incredibly supportive,
and I want to give a big thank you to my parents Tom and Serah Byrne
for encouraging my love of music since day one.
I also want to thank my sister Savannah for playing drums for me
and creating wonderful memories while gigging for the past 12 years.
I also want to thank Matthew Duveneck
for making it possible for me to still pursue my love for environmental studies
while being a conservatory student.
Lastly, none of this would have been possible
without the musicians you are hearing today!
I am so lucky to call them my collaborators and peers.
