Chorus Opportunities

Symphonic Choir

The Symphonic Choir offers students and members of the wider NEC community the opportunity to perform music from all styles and periods of choral literature. The choir’s repertoire extends beyond traditional Western masterpieces to include Native American chants, works from Asia and the Middle East, contemporary works, and more. Each year the Symphonic Choir gives several concerts in NEC’s Jordan Hall and the Boston area, performing a cappella and with orchestra.

Chamber Singers

NEC Chamber Singers, also under the direction of Erica J. Washburn, is an ensemble of 20 to 24 singers that performs challenging works from all style periods, both a cappella and with instrumentalists. This select chorus performs several times a year, both in NEC’s famed Jordan Hall and at venues across eastern Massachusetts. In recent years, the ensemble has performed the works of many NEC faculty members and alumni composers. All students, regardless of major and year, are welcome to request a hearing for placement in this ensemble at the start of the fall semester.

Conductor’s Choir

The Conductor’s Choir is an ensemble designed specifically for the growth of graduate-level choral conducting majors. This choir, which features 1-on-a-part singing, typically ranges in ensemble number from 8-12 compensated choristers, from any major and year, and performs several times a year at NEC, as well as around Boston. Erica J. Washburn serves as a coach for this ensemble while the graduate conducting majors program for, and interact with, the choristers as though they were their own professional choir.
