Program note

Un carbunclo es un coyote con una piedra brillante en la frente. Se aparece en las partes más espesas de los bosques o en lo más silencioso del desierto. No debes buscarlo, pero lo buscarás, no debes encontrarlo, pero lo encontrarás, no debes quitarle la piedra de su frente, pero lo harás, cuando lo hayas hecho, el carbunclo se convertirá en arena y tú estarás perdido.

A carbuncle is a coyote with a shiny stone on its forehead. It appears in the thickest parts of the forest or in the quietest part of the desert. You must not look for it, but you will look for it, you must not find it, but you will find it, you must not remove the stone from its forehead, but you will, when you have done so, the carbuncle will turn to sand and you will be lost.

Program note

Cruzar la frontera norte significa dejar todo atrás. Todo lo que viviste hasta ese momento es ahora un recuerdo borroso. Cruzar de un lado a otro es balancearse en un equilibrio muy precario entre la vida y la muerte, entre la ilusión y la angustia. Así suena cruzar la frontera en un Datsun, así suena la frontera, así suena un Datsun, este el ruido que hace un equilibrio precario entre el todo y la nada.

Crossing the northern border means leaving everything behind. Everything you lived up to that moment is now a blurred memory. To cross from one side to the other is to balance precariously between life and death, between illusion and anguish. This is what crossing the border in a Datsun sounds like, this is what the border sounds like, this is what a Datsun sounds like, this is the noise that makes a precarious balance between everything and nothingness.

The late Mexican poet Eduardo Lizalde wrote in a book: I remember that love was a soft fury, not expressible in words, I suppose he may have written others of perhaps greater importance, but I remember those.

Nadie sabe si Mario Bellatin es peruano, uruguayo o mexicano. Gran parte de su éxito literario se debe en parte a esta confusión, yo cuando lo conocí pensé que era de una capa interna de la tierra. No tiene un pedazo de brazo, esto se debe a su gran éxito literario.

No one knows if Mario Bellatin is Peruvian, Uruguayan or Mexican. Much of his literary success is due in part to this confusion, when I first met him I thought he was from an inner layer of the earth. He does not have a piece of arm, this is due to his great literary success.

brecht salió huyendo de los nazis en los años treinta, después de un exilio en países nórdicos, parís y Dinamarca, pasa a la unión soviética y luego desde valdivostok llega a california, estados unidos. Ahí huye de la persecución de McCarthy hacia la RDA, dónde tampoco es muy bien recibido. Esto es sobre la persecución, las huidas, los escapes, la nieve y por supuesto las despedidas que ocurrieron entre medio.

brecht fled from the nazis in the 1930s, after an exile in the nordic countries, paris and Denmark, he went to the soviet union and then from Valdivostok to california, USA. There he fled from McCarthy's persecution to the GDR, where he was not very well received either. This is about the chase, the escapes, the escapes, the snow and of course the goodbyes that happened in between.

Con esta pieza tengo la fuerte convicción de hacerme de una tarjeta de ciudadanía, comúnmente conocida como green card. Aunque sienta la más honda de las tristezas por este país. Están en mis oraciones.

With this piece I have the strong conviction to get a citizenship card, commonly known as green card. Although I feel the deepest sadness for this country. They are in my prayers.
