Join CMA faculty Lautaro Mantilla, Steve Netsky, and Hankus Netsky for introductory workshops on rhythm and improvisation, songwriting, and Klezmer music. Bring your instruments, your voices, and your ears, and prepare to jump in. Everyone is welcome, so bring your family and friends - no previous experience is necessary!

3:15-4:15pm | Rhythm and Improvisation with Lautaro Mantilla

In this hands-on workshop, students will be introduced to creative ways to explore and develop their rhythm skills and their improvisation vocabulary. Selected repertoire and practical exercises will guide students down the path of finding their own voice while they gain a better understanding of ear training, composition, and improvisation.

4:30-5:30pm | Intro to Songwriting with Steve Netsky

Do you write songs - or would you like to write songs? In the NEC Songwriters Workshop, participants play songs that they are working on, and the group reacts to what they hear, offering support, advice, and ideas. We'll do some of this at our introductory workshop. We'll also talk about how to get started and the many ways songs are born.

5:45-6:45pm Klezmer Music with Hankus Netsky

In this workshop you’ll learn a bit about the history of Eastern European Jewish music while jumping right into playing a tune. All instruments are welcome, including your voice!
