Gloria Chien and Soovin Kim named Artistic Directors of Chamber Music Northwest

Chien is an alumna of NEC's BM, MM, and DMA programs as well as NEC's Preparatory School. Kim teaches violin at New England Conservatory in both the College and the Preparatory School.

Gloria Chien ’99, ’01 MM, ’04 DMA and Soovin Kim have been named as the next artistic directors of Chamber Music Northwest.

A husband and wife team, both are internationally-renowned performers—Gloria a pianist, Soovin a violinist—and experienced music presenters. Kim teaches violin at New England Conservatory in both the College and the Preparatory School. Chien is an alumna of NEC's BM, MM, and DMA programs as well as the Preparatory School, where she studied with Russell Sherman and Wha Kyung Byun.

Gloria and Soovin will perform under Shifrin’s artistic leadership at Chamber Music Northwest’s 2019 and 2020 Summer Festivals, and then succeed him as artistic directors in the fall of 2020. In the interim, they will begin their own artistic planning for their first Chamber Music Northwest Summer Festival in 2021.
