Jazz Small Ensembles: Levy, Palmer, and Lockwood Ensembles

THREE SETS: 7 PM, 8 PM, & 9 PM

7:00pm- Levy Ensemble

In Levy's ensemble, you have the opportunity to play in a straight-ahead style through a repertoire of your own and Levy’s original compositions and arrangements. You also play compositions by Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Horace Silver, Cedar Walton, McCoy Tyner, and Wes Montgomery. In the process, you explore various rhythmic, melodic, and comping routines both to develop your solos and to hone your ability to take on different roles in the ensemble.

8:00pm- Palmer Ensemble

Jason Palmer's ensemble will focus mainly on original compositions and arrangements by members of the ensemble as well as Jason.  We will also focus time on deconstructing standards from the Great American Songbook into as many time signatures as possible.  There will also be a section on learning compositions from various influential artists who are currently active on the scene (Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, etc.)

9:00pm- Lockwood Ensemble

This ensemble performs arrangements and composition's in a wide range of styles and genres. The main emphasis is on striving for a strong “group” sound. Students are also encouraged to voice and suggest ideas and concepts about existing material, and also bring in arrangements and compositions to further achieve this goal.
