Jaki Byard's 100th Birthday Panel Discussion

NEC: Williams Hall | Directions

290 Huntington Ave.
Boston, MA
United States

Join Ken Schaphorst, Carl Atkins, Jed Levy, and Jason Moran for a pre-concert panel discussion about the life and work of Jaki Byard. Byard was one of the cornerstones of the groundbreaking Afro-American Music and Jazz Studies Department assembled by Carl Atkins and Gunther Schuller at NEC in 1969. Byard combined an unparalleled encyclopedic knowledge of the history of jazz with an openness to the most contemporary avant-garde styles. The panel will reflect on Byard’s influence, both at NEC and in the larger jazz community.

This event will be in-person and also livestreamed.
