“Unknown Friend”. Duet for piano and voice. The performance blends theater and music, where actress Ksenia Rappoport and pianist Polina Osetinskaya enact a little-known short story from the mid-1920s by Ivan Bunin, the émigré Russian writer who received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1933. ‘Unknown friend’ comprises several love letters from a married woman living in a foreign land to somebody she has never met but feels closest to – the author of her favourite books. Bunin wrote the piece soon after his emigration to France, inspired by the correspondence with his admirer from Dublin. In the performance Bunin’s text is accompanied by a delicate musical programme featuring pieces by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Debussy, Fauré and contemporary Russian composers Anton Batagov and Pavel Karmanov. Director of the performance is Valery Galendeev.

This will be performed in Russian.
