“At the Border of Jazz”

This program presents a real challenge by associating a classical saxophonist, Nicolas Prost, with a jazz-pianist, Sébastien Paindestre. It is an elaborate learned jazz or "imaginary classic" with openness to improvisation. This exclusive program solely focuses on pieces written for the duo Nicolas Prost + Sebastien Paindestre, touring in Europe, the US, and Japan. Each composer evolved in the world of jazz and popular music and had instructions to write "à la Classique." These are recognized artists who attract a new audience through the mixing of these two musical universes, like Gershwin, Copland, or Bernstein in the 20th century. Border Jazz is a crossover project with 25 world premieres including pieces by Chris Potter, Branford Marsalis, James Carter, John Helliwell, Michel Portal, Laurent de Wilde, Henri Texier, Bojan Z, Baptiste Herbin, Ibrahim Maalouf, and the legendary Wayne Shorter.
