From Heavenly Harmony: Handel’s Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day and Bach’s Magnificat

Experience an incredible collaboration of two musical powerhouses you won’t see anywhere else! Vox Luminis and the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra join forces in an evening showcasing masterworks by Bach and Handel inspired by the power of divine intercession from two formidable women: St. Cecilia and the Virgin Mary. In Handel’s spectacular Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day, voices and instruments together explore the heavenly power of music to make—and unmake—the world, in a series of gorgeous choruses and solo arias. We pair this with Bach’s Magnificat, Mary’s ancient song of praise, which he composed for his first season in Leipzig.
