The Century of Titian: Music of the Italian Renaissance

For thirty years, the close-knit team of instrumentalists and singers that make up Doulce Mémoire have traveled the world giving life to the music of the Renaissance. Director Denis Raisin Dadre transports us to Renaissance Italy during the life of the famous Venetian painter Titian (1490–1576). Throughout his long life, the Italian passion for music was central to both the public and private lives of people throughout the Italian peninsula. These intimate gatherings of the most learned men and women of the time inspire a program featuring music by de Rore, Striggio, Verdelot, Tromboncino, and the brilliant repertoire of Luzzasco Luzzaschi written for Duke Alfonso II d’Este’s famous “Ladies of Ferrara” decades after Titian had painted a magnificent cycle of mythological paintings for Duke Alfonso I.
