Congratulations and welcome to New England Conservatory!

We are delighted that you will be joining us at NEC and look forward to meeting you during orientation on January 14. During the first week of classes you will have many opportunities to meet both new and returning students, faculty and administration. Ensemble auditions, department hearings and placement exams all take place during the first week. Attendance at orientation is mandatory for all new students.

Orientation will be on Monday, January 14 from 9:00am - 12:00pm in Pierce Hall located on the first floor of the St Botolph building room SB118.

New students who are living in the Residence Hall should plan to arrive on Saturday, January 12 and go directly to the lobby of the Student Life and Performing Center (SLPC) to check in.

Pre-Orientation Requirements

Sexual Assault Prevention Course: Required for ALL Incoming Students

All incoming students are required to complete the Sexual Assault Prevention course, a web-based informational program that educates students on healthy relationships, the meaning of sexual consent and the role of the bystander in creating a safe and healthy community.  On December 17, incoming students will receive a link to the online course.  Students must complete the course before they register for classes on January 14.  This interactive program takes about 45 minutes to complete. Please see NEC’s Sexual Misconduct Policy for more information.

AlcoholEdu: Required for ALL incoming undergraduate students 

All incoming undergraduate students are required to complete the AlcoholEdu course, a web-based informational program designed to reduce the negative consequences of alcohol among students.  On December 17, incoming undergraduate students will receive a link to the AlcoholEdu course, sent to their NEC e-mail address.  Students must complete the course before they register for classes on January 14.

Health and Counseling Center

All students must turn in their Student Health Report by January 7, 2019. If you have not turned yours in yet, please do so immediately. You can find information for the 2018-2019 Student Health Insurance Policy online. You can find information here about how to waive the plan if you meet the right requirements.

Penguin Pass: Submit your picture for your student ID

Your Penguin Pass is your student ID allows you to gain access to NEC's buildings. You can also load money on your Penguin Pass that can be spent on dining, copies, and other cashless purchases. Please submit your picture for your Penguin Pass before arriving on campus.

Undergraduate Music Theory Placement Exam

All incoming BM students are required to take the Undergraduate Music Theory Placement Exams. Your assigned testing times will be in your Orientation Packets. You can find information on the exams as well as practice tests here.

All incoming MM students are required to take the Master of Music Theory Competency Exam. Your assigned testing times will be in your Orientation Packets. You can find information on the exams as well as practice tests here.
