From 1993 through 2012, Patricia-Maria Weinmann was a member of the New England Conservatory opera coaching faculty, directed scenes programs and fully staged productions, and co-directed the Opera Studies department's Education Outreach program.
Weinemann has worked for many national opera companies and festivals, including Utah Opera, Syracuse Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Central City Opera, Opera Boston, Ashlawn-Highland Festival, the American Opera Project, Mississippi Grand Opera, and the Tanglewood Institute.
At NEC, Weinmann directed Così fan tutte (in photo), Dido and Aeneas, Les Malheurs d'Orphée, Cole!, Miss Havisham's Wedding Night, La Cantarina, and Hansel and Gretel, along with the many opera scenes with which NEC's young singers feed Boston's appetite for opera throughout the year.
Weinmann also trains some of the country's most talented young singers as a coach and stage director for Young Artist programs at Utah Opera and Syracuse Opera. In 2009, Weinmann joined the faculty of the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and in the summer of 2010 she taught and directed for the Ashlawn Highland Festival.
Outside of NEC, local directing engagements have included Daniel Pinkham's The Cask of Amontillado, Four Saints in Three Acts, and the staged orchestral premiere of Scott Wheeler's The Construction of Boston for the Boston Conservatory (prominently featured on WGBH-TV's "Arts Boston"), the premiere of Wheeler's Democracy for American Opera Projects in New York, and H.M.S. Pinafore, L' Italianain Algeri, and Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific for Opera Boston. South Pacific memorably used the U.S.S. Cassin Young as an important set element, as her previous Pinafore (in photo) used the landmark U.S.S. Constitution, for popular summer evening performances at the Charlestown Navy Yard.
Beginning in August 2004, Weinmann directed Utah Opera's production of H.M.S. Pinafore to critical acclaim for the inaugural Deer Valley Music Festival in Park City, Utah. Through the 2005–2008 seasons, Weinmann returned to Utah to direct The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance, and The Gondoliers. In addition, Weinmann directed Utah Opera's regular season's offering of Cenerentola and returned in 2010 to direct L'Italiana in Algeri. Additional directing engagements include The Barber of Seville for the Seagle Music Colony, Naomi in the Living Room by Jonathan Holland for the New Gallery Concert Series (Boston), and Lee Hoiby's Bon Appétit for Opera Providence.
