    Program note

The Suite No.1 is a collection of short pieces I have written from 2021-2023; they are about my experiences with friends and things among us. They are obviously much less sophisticated than the other three monumental composers’ music I am playing, and they are mostly in the style of classical and romantic music and early jazz, inspired by classical composers and jazz musicians. I have selected a few to play, and I am happy to show all of you these miniatures that are endearing to me.
    --Jiawen Eric Guan

  5. To all who came to my recital,
I would like to express my sincere thanks and love to all of you who came, in person or online.

These past six years at New England Conservatory have shaped my life greatly.

I have lived through the most beautiful musics, sorrow, great joy, confusion, understanding, inspiration, discovery, transformation (in both my musicianship and myself), and so much more that mere words cannot express.
I have gained greatly not only in music and knowledge, but also about truths of life, love, darkness, light, humanity…all of this encompassed in music that I play
and music that I create. It has been a great time, and will always be.

I would like to first thank Jesus Christ my God,
who has saved me out of my darkest time in life and has given me life and the greatest love, who has guided me to light with Holy Spirit.

I would like to thank my mother and my father: they have provided everything and have done everything they could for me to pursue my music dream; they have loved me selflessly since my first day on earth.
I would like to thank my whole family as well.

I would like to thank my dear studio teacher Prof. Paik, whose supreme musicianship and artistry inspired me and transformed me and the way I play, the way I think about music and piano playing.

I would like to thank all my dear friends, colleagues, all my professors, and everyone at NEC - all of you made my past six years here some of the greatest times of my life.

Once again, I thank you to all of you from the bottom of my heart, and may the Music I play bring out something great and beautiful from all your beautiful souls.
