Recital: Jacob Edward Britton '22 MM, Jazz Composition

NEC: Brown Hall | Directions

290 Huntington Ave.
Boston, MA
United States

NEC's students meet one-on-one each week with a faculty artist to perfect their craft. As each one leaves NEC to make their mark in the performance world, they present a full, professional recital that is free and open to the public. It's your first look at the artists of tomorrow.

Jacob Edward Britton '22 MM studies Jazz Composition with Ken Schaphorst.

This is an in-person event with a private stream available to the NEC community here:

  1. I'd like to dedicate this show to a very strong, determined human being named Karl Mercieca. Karl has been struggling with severe insomnia since 2019, and his condition has become life-threatening. Prescriptions no longer work the way they used to and his sleep cycle has gotten progressively worse. Despite this, Karl continues to push forward and take care of himself to the best of his ability. He is an inspiring person and, given the subject matter of my musical, I've decided to offer up this recital in his honor. If you'd like to help Karl continue to survive, or if you would like to help others with similar illnesses, please consider visiting the donation links below.

  4. I have many thanks to offer.

I'd like to thank my family for fostering within me a loving spirit and heart drawn to music. They have always supported my musical endeavors and I am extremely grateful.
I love you guys with all my heart.

I'd also like to thank my studio professors, Ken Schaphorst and Bert Seager,
who assisted me in the art of jazz arranging and songwriting.
This recital would be miles behind if it weren't for their guidance.

I am also grateful for the generous musicians and singers
who have undertaken to perform this recital.
It's an honor to perform alongside such talented, professional men and women.

    Thank you all for coming.
All glory is for God in the end.
