Recital: Da Young Rachel Lim '21 BM, Violin
NEC's students meet one-on-one each week with a faculty artist to perfect their craft. As each one leaves NEC to make their mark in the performance world, they present a full, professional recital that is free and open to the public. It's your first look at the artists of tomorrow.

Jessie Montgomery | Peace (2020)
"Written just a month after the Great Sadness of the first quarantine orders due to COVID-19, facing the shock felt by the whole globe as well as personal crisis, I find myself struggling to define what actually brings me joy. And I’m at a stage of making peace with sadness as it comes and goes like any other emotion. I’m learning to observe sadness for the first time not as a negative emotion, but as a necessary dynamic to the human experience.”

Thank you everyone who came tonight, whether in person or online. And special thanks to Yu-Shin and Dina for their support!
Although it is hard to believe my journey at NEC has finally come to an end, I would like to express how grateful I am to perform and share my music here. The past four years at NEC have shaped me into the musician and the person that I am, and I'm thankful for all the opportunities and connections I've been able to experience, as well as the moral support from my beloved friends.
In particular, my sincere gratitude goes to Prof. Soovin Kim, who has inspired me to think critically about performance music and grow both as a professional musician and as a human being.
And of course, I would not be here today without my family's unconditional love and support, even from abroad.
