Merz Trio: undiluted days

Directed by Jon Levin, undiluted days explores what it means to listen and what it means to make music now. Inspired by the solitary listening that has characterized the pandemic, the first half of our show operates as a ‘playlist’ of music we've been preoccupied with: you’ll hear everything and anything, from Gesualdo to Jeffrey Mumford, via Edith Piaf and Irish folksong, all working in dialogue with the monumental Tchaikovsky Trio that makes up the show's second half.

In addition to the music, the show will feature lighting design, prerecorded text, and projected titles working in tandem to explore the events leading up to the Tchaikovsky Trio's composition. We hope you will bring your own life experiences and listening to the Tchaikovsky as well. This is a piece that remembers and engages with a life, in all its light and darkness - to us, it feels like a very real portrayal of what it is to be human.

This concert will be in-person.
