Handel + Haydn Society Presents: Baroque Christmas

NEC: Jordan Hall | Directions

290 Huntington Ave.
Boston, MA
United States

Performed by:
Jonathan Cohen, conductor
Robin Johannsen, soprano
H+H Orchestra

With conductor Jonathan Cohen, just named H+H’s new Artistic Director beginning in 2023!

Our musical gift for the holidays is sure to brighten your spirits with the joy of the season: Bach’s exhilarating cantata—a partnership of soprano and solo trumpet in friendly “rivalry,” enlivened by H+H’s period instruments—ends in a spectacular fugue on the word “Alleluia”; tours-de-force for soprano Robin Johannsen: Silete Venti, in which her opening words quite literally silence turbulent instrumental forces; and a heavenly Gloria. Plus Handel’s Concerto grosso and the H+H premiere of the lively Simphonie by much-admired Bach contemporary Jan Zelenka.

Just added, December 15 only: Jonathan Cohen will join H+H President and CEO David Snead for a Q+A on stage immediately following the performance, where he’ll answer your questions about the concert, the art of conducting, and his vision for H+H.

Please reach out to the Handel + Haydn Society Box office with any questions regarding programming or ticketing details at 617-262-1815, ext. 1 or by emailing boxoffice@handelandhaydn.org.
