Dang Thai Son 鄧泰山, pianist,

The first Asian to win the First Prize and Gold Medal at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, 1980.
He received the “Doctor Honoris Causa” from the Music Academy in Bydgoczsz, Poland.  His album "Chopin's Concertos" on Fryderyk Chopin Institute label was awarded in 2013 a Platinum Disc by the Polish Association of Audio-Video Producers for sales of over 10,000 copies.  
Two new recordings were released in 2017, Schubert and Paderewski. The concerto on this CD was recorded live with the Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy during the "Chopin and his Europe" Festival in Warsaw on August 29th, 2015. This recording was selected as "La clef du mois" (Disc of the Month) by ResMusica (Paris, France.)
He is the subject of the biography, “A pianist loved by Chopin - The Dang Thai Son Story”, published by Yamaha Music Media Corporation in 2003. He is the winner of the Prix Opus (equivalent of a Grammy Award in Quebec, Canada) in the 2016 "Concert of the Year."  
Mr. Dang will teach at the Oberlin Conservatory starting the 2018-2019 academic year.
