Performances by small jazz and contemporary improvisation ensembles coached by NEC's exceptional faculty. This evening's concerts are performed live and streamed in real time from the Eben Jordan Ensemble Room.

This ensemble explores the music of composer/bassist/pianist Charles Mingus in preparation for his centennial celebration in 2022.

In this ensemble the students are encouraged to bring in original compositions to be workshopped in the rehearsals. The group also plays music from a wide variety of sources including classic works and pieces by contemporary masters.

The Cecil McBee Ensemble plays a variety of music including student originals and arrangements, as well as McBee's originals and arrangements. He also stresses the importance of standard repertoire and traditional playing.
