The Wildcard Honors Ensemble is comprised of students in multiple departments at NEC performing any genre, from traditional music to music that is beyond genre.

The NEC Honors Ensembles are selected each year by competitive audition for their extraordinary artistic accomplishment & commitment to working together. Jär is an American experimental trio founded in the spring of 2019. The group consists of drummer Jonathan Starks, bassist Anna Abondolo, and pianist Rahul Carlberg. Jär mainly performs original compositions, long form improvisations, and the occasional cover. Their sound draws influence from EDM, Ambient, and Experimental Jazz, but there are no holds barred. It is the group’s intention to synthesize their influences and stretch the capabilities of a typical jazz piano trio.

Anna Abondolo, is a bassist and composer from Los Angeles, California. She currently attends the New England Conservatory where she studies with Frank Carlberg and Donald Palma. In 2017, Anna won the Spotlight Awards resulting in her debut at Disney Concert Hall. In 2017, her high school combo placed first at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz competition resulting in a performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival. In 2017, Anna participated in the inaugural year of NYO Jazz, playing in a big band touring Europe along with 22 other young jazz musicians across the United States. Anna has performed with artists including Sean Jones, Dianne Reeves, Jerry Bergonzi, and Tom Kubis.
