Join the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Julius P. Williams, on an exploration of orchestral dances, from European inspired dances including Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite based on his ballet for Martha Graham, and Claude Debussy’s Danse Sacree et Profane for harp and string orchestra, to traditional folk dance through the lens of Chinese composer Gong Chen’s Morning in Miao Ling. The concert will culminate with a musical reflection by composer Nkeiru Okoye on the vibrant life and culture of the Detroit neighborhood of Black Bottom prior to its destruction in the 1960’s to make way for a highway. This program will feature several student and faculty soloists, including orchestra members Kaho Wing (violin) and Alara Ust (harp).

About the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra
The BCSO is the premiere symphony at Berklee College of Music, offering students, faculty, and guest artists the opportunity to come together and perform some of the most influential music ever written. Focused on the regular and intentional inclusion of composers who represent the broad spectrum of our humanity, the BCSO performs both traditional and contemporary genres side-by-side, because all orchestral music was once contemporary.
