Music of the World: Contemporary approaches to Composition and Improvisation

This class offers a framework for students to develop their musical creativity while immersing themselves in different improvisational traditions based in Contemporary music, Rhythm and Blues, and World music.

Students will work and collaborate with each other to embrace ideas about structure, rhythm, and texture pushing the boundaries of genre and style and the relationship between composition and improvisation.

Repertoire will range from completely notated music to open forms, and from complicated rhythms to ambient soundscapes.
