We are thrilled to announce the launch of 'Let's Improv Classical!', an innovative improvisation course for our Classical Prep students aged 8-18.
This course, starting on January 20th, will culminate in a unique performance at the Black Box Theater on May 11th, featuring various artistic elements.*
Taught by Sarah Infini Takagi, an award-winning classical pianist, jazz vocalist, improviser, composer, actress, and comedian, this course promises to be a groundbreaking experience for our students.
In this class, the student will learn how to
- Improvise using basic principles of music construction, theory
- Analyze and Improvise in different composer styles ( Beethoven, Bartok, Bach, etc)
- Improvise in freestyle, and in classical composer styles
- Improvise solo, and with others in different chamber music configurations
- Perform in a final performance with the option to add movement, choreography, poetry, spoken word, singing, film, planted audience, comedy, and other theatrical elements
The class is 14 weeks and meets in 2 sections divided by age
Section 1: Ages 8-12 years old: 1- 2:30 pm
Section 2: Ages 13-18 years old: 3-4:30 pm
We are specifically looking for students of intermediate and higher performing levels who play
- Violin
- Cello
- Flute
- Clarinet
- Piano
- Other (Viola, oboe, other instruments)
The class will be taught in a safe, supportive environment that will foster nurturing kind friendships among the students.
The class size is limited to 6 students.
