New England Conservatory Announces Appointment of Kairyn Rainer as Chief of Staff

New England Conservatory President Tony Woodcock has announced the appointment of Kairyn Rainer as Chief of Staff.  A Chicago-area native, graduate of Illinois State University, and lifelong pianist, Rainer comes to NEC with a background in the legal profession. She has been serving as the Manager of Practice Group Administration for the Corporate & Capital Markets Department of the Brown Rudnick law firm. Her appointment takes effect August 27.

At Brown Rudnick, Rainer worked directly with the firm’s top management, including its Managing Directors and Practice Group Leaders, as well as the firm’s Finance, Marketing, Recruiting and Professional Development teams. Her mandate was to keep all constituents working toward meeting the strategic goals of individual teams and the firm as a whole.  She was responsible for legal practice group budgets, new partner integration, and coordination across teams. She started her legal-industry career managing IT system upgrades for Chicago-based firms.  In early 2000, Rainer relocated to the Boston area and changed career paths when she moved into the area of attorney professional development.

At NEC, the new Chief of Staff will be responsible for supporting the work of the President and senior management, further implementing the Strategic Plan, and facilitating optimal effectiveness of the Boards.

NEC presents more than 900 free concerts each year, many of them in Jordan Hall, its world- renowned, century-old, beautifully restored concert hall.  These programs range from solo recitals to chamber music to orchestral programs to jazz, contemporary improvisation, and opera scenes.  Every year, NEC’s opera studies department also presents two fully staged opera productions at the Cutler Majestic Theatre or Paramount Theatre in Boston.

NEC is co-founder and educational partner of From the Top, a weekly radio program that celebrates outstanding young classical musicians from the entire country. With its broadcast home in Jordan Hall, the show is now carried by National Public Radio and is heard on 250 stations throughout the United States.
