NEC offers an intensive two-year graduate program for pianists leading to a Master of Music degree or Graduate Diploma in Chamber Music. Under the direction of Vivian Hornik Weilerstein, this selective program is open to a limited number of students each year. Successful applicants must have significant experience with chamber music repertoire and performance.

Program highlights include:

  • Participation in six chamber ensembles over the course of four semesters. Each ensemble is coached one hour per week (including regular coaching by Vivian Hornik Weilerstein with additional coaching by faculty members in other departments) and will perform three times in some combination of performance classes, masterclasses, and recitals.
  • Weekly individual studio instruction with Ms. Hornik Weilerstein.
  • Two semesters of individual coaching with another faculty member.
  • Minimum two semesters of Sonata Repertoire class.
  • Additional coursework (required and elective) in music theory, music history, and performance studies.
  • Other possible performance opportunities include Chamber Music Gala concerts, Honors Ensembles participation, and outreach performances.
