Housing Selection

Freshman and sophomore students are required to live in the Residence Hall. Rising sophomore students, who are freshmen currently living in the Residence Hall, will be able to select their room and roommate for the 2018-2019 academic year through a lottery process. Eligible students will be randomly assigned a lottery number.

Eligibility: Students are eligible to participate in housing selection if they currently live in the Residence Hall and are freshmen students. Students who currently live in the Residence Hall but are sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate students are not eligible to participate in housing selection.

Students who are not eligible to participate in Housing Selection but want to live the Residence Hall will be able to sign up on the On Campus Housing Wait List. On campus housing is not guaranteed for students on the wait list.

Residence Life will host Off Campus Housing Information Sessions for students who are searching for an apartment off campus. There will be an info session on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 10:30am and another session on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Both sessions will be held in the Elfers Commons on the ground floor in the SLPC and refreshments will be served.

Lottery Numbers: Students will select their space on campus in chronological order of their assigned lottery number. Eligible students will receive a randomly assigned lottery number via their NEC email on Thursday, April 19, 2018. Lottery numbers cannot be exchanged or reassigned.

Students with a lower lottery number (closer to 1) can "pull in" students with a higher lottery (further from 1) number. When a student's lottery number is called at Housing Selection Night, they should proceed to the Housing Selection table with any other student they would like to pull into their space. A student can pull one other student into a double room and three other students into a suite. For example, two students with lottery numbers 17 and 150 would like to live together in a double room. When lottery number 17 is called, both students should proceed to the Housing Selection table and select their desired space. This practice allows students to select their roommates and ensure they are able to live together in the same space.

Pricing: The cost of on campus housing will increase for the 2018-2019 academic year. The increase will be approximately 1% for a double room, single room and suite.  Finalized pricing will be available in early March 2018.

Accommodations & Exemptions: If you would like to request a housing accommodation, please submit the appropriate request form and required documentation by 5:00PM on Friday, April 6, 2018. Accommodation forms and additional information are available below.

If you would like to request an exemption from living in the Residence Hall, please contact the Resident Director, Perry Doherty, at perry.doherty@necmusic.edu by 5:00PM on Saturday, March 31, 2018.
