Guggenheim Fellows

Often characterized as "midcareer" awards, Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for men and women who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts. The program begin in 1926 with an inaugural class of 15 Fellows. Currently, approximately 200 Fellowships are awarded each year.

Unless otherwise noted, the NEC Guggenheim Fellows listed below were awarded in the category "Creative Arts/Music Composition." In its early days, the Guggenheim Foundation sometimes granted second Fellowships or renewals, as indicated with an asterisk (*). This practice has been discontinued.
