New England Conservatory hosts the Eastern Division Conference of the College Band Directors National Association, which runs from March 6 to 8. The conference centers on the theme of "Crossing Over" and features the many different kinds of music we now perform, influenced by jazz, world, ethnic, techno, pop, fusion—it runs the gamut.
This morning's open dress rehearsal includes two works to be premiered this evening by the NEC Wind Ensemble. Gunther Schuller will attend for his work as will arranger Ken Schaphorst, who has created a performing set of parts for Charles Mingus’s heretofore lost, but groundbreaking, Half-Mast Inhibition.
