This event is rescheduled from January 22.
NEC's quartet-in-residence, the Borromeo String Quartet (Nicholas Kitchen, Kristopher Tong, violin; Mai Motobuchi, viola; Yeesun Kim, cello) offers listeners a peek under the hood, and a prelude to their upcoming performance of Bela Bartók's complete Quartets. They will discuss and play excerpts from the composer's manuscripts, which they project on their laptop "music stands." This should provoke fascinating conversation about Bartók's composing methods, his first and subsequent thoughts about particular passages, and what constitutes a definitive version of musical works.
Listeners are invited to return at 7 pm tonight to hear the "finished" product.
