NEC's Student Computer Lab operates six days and evenings per week (Sunday through Friday) during the academic year.
The Computer Lab offers:
- 32 computing stations
- networked printers
- scanners with Photoshop (image editing software)
- notation/scoring applications (Finale, Sibelius)
- audio editing and media conversion applications (Audacity, iTunes)
- Internet access
- Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- video capture devices/software for video editing and DVD burning
What Musicians Need
Students utilizing the computer lab at NEC are both students and musicians, thus creating a unique and creative lab experience. NEC students need and expect computer lab services beyond what a typical college student would expect in order to accomplish their work:
Typical college student’s lab needs
- Write papers
- Access reading assignments
- Print homework for class
- Communicate with teachers via e-mail
- Use the Internet for research or pleasure
- Watch a video or listen to music assignments
Additional lab needs for NEC students
- Create scores (Finale or Sibelius)
- Research performance opportunities
- Make CDs of personal recordings
- Scan or import digital images for promotional flyers
- Network online individually or as a band/ensemble
- Create and print paper portfolios
- Create web-based portfolios using social networking sites
- Convert digital media: Minidisc to CD, .wav to .mp3 files, etc.
- Access Musician resource materials online
- Make a DVD of a recorded performance for family or as an audition for a music competition
