New England Conservatory believes that truly engaged partnerships with other arts institutions, schools, community organizations, and businesses are vital for an institution deeply embedded in its community. Partnerships, judiciously chosen and carefully stewarded, allow the partners the opportunity to enhance their own programs and reputations, share resources, and collaborate on projects that might not otherwise have been possible, and contributed to the wellbeing of all.
To this end, NEC engages in a variety of Academic Partnerships, Performing Arts Partnerships, and Community Partnerships that embrace a wide range of organizations—small and large, young and venerable, conservative and cutting edge, private and public. Thus, our relationships encompass internationally renowned institutions and more recent startups. We collaborate with educational programs, whether highly specialized arts schools or those with more broad-based curricula. And we engage with museums, libraries, senior centers and residences, hospitals, community centers, and historical sites through our Community Performances and Partnerships program. In 2014, we graduated the fifth cohort of Sistema Fellows, who, after a year’s training, are creating or working in music education programs that are transforming the lives of thousands of at-risk children in the United States and beyond.
Through such immersion in our communities we can share the beauties of music throughout the population, ensure music a central place in contemporary society, and reposition the role of musicians in the world.
