Avi Mehta is a lifelong learner passionate about building relationships and community through music education. He currently works with numerous ensembles in Boston where he hopes to help young people reach personal and collective goals through ensemble music-making. 

Avi is an active participant in Boston’s El Sistema community, a system of youth ensembles using music education as a vehicle for social change. He currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Josiah Quincy Orchestra Program in Chinatown and also conducts the four Wind Ensembles at the Margarita Muniz Academy in Jamaica Plain, both inspired by the work of Venezuela’s El Sistema.

In addition to his work with El-Sistema-inspired programs, Avi is the Music Director of the Randolph Community Band. Previously, he has served as the Assistant Conductor of the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble at the New England Conservatory and the Repertory Youth Orchestra the Longy School of Music. He frequently appears as a guest conductor for numerous bands and orchestras worldwide. 

Avi holds an M.M. in Wind Conducting and a certification in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University, and a B.M. in Tuba Performance from The University of Wisconsin-Madison.
