Avi Mehta is a lifelong learner passionate about building relationships and community through music education. He currently works with numerous ensembles in Boston where he hopes to help young people reach their personal and collective goals by empowering them to develop meaningful friendships and create innovative communities around themselves.

Avi is an active participant in Boston’s El Sistema community, a system of youth ensembles using music education as a vehicle for social change. He conducts the Josiah Quincy School String Orchestra in Chinatown and the Wind Ensemble at the Margarita Muniz Academy in Jamaica Plain. He frequently appears as a guest conductor in numerous music programs in the United States, India, and Venezuela.

In addition to his work with El-Sistema-inspired programs, Avi serves as the Music Director of the Randolph Community Band and the Assistant Conductor of the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble at the New England Conservatory.

Avi holds an M.M. in Wind Conducting, a certification in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University, and a B.M. in Tuba Performance from The University of Wisconsin-Madison.
