Welcome to NEC Admissions! This section of the site contains information about applying to the degree and diploma programs at NEC and is intended for prospective students and their families. For complete application and audition information, please use the links to the left. We hope that you find these pages informative.
Overview
Prospective students apply for admission into a specific major. NEC sets enrollment goals for each major to determine the number of admission offers made in any given term. Enrollment quotas ensure that all students at NEC have the opportunity for maximum participation in all curricular offerings and performance ensembles.
NEC generally accepts applications for fall (September) admission into all majors and degree programs. The vast majority of NEC students start their studies in the fall term. Applications for spring (January) admission are accepted strictly on a space-available basis. Students interested in applying to begin their studies in the spring semester should contact the Office of Admission about anticipated program openings before filing an application, and should be aware that a very limited number of students begin their studies in the spring.
Each applicant is considered for admission based on a competitive review of his/her audition results, overall academic history, artistic preparation, and letters of recommendation.
As described in the Audition Requirements, some programs require a prescreening recording before an invitation to audition is made. For fall semester applicants, prescreening results are typically sent by the middle of January to applicants whose prescreening recording was received on time. Prescreening results are sent via email.
Final admission decisions will be sent at the end of March to fall applicants who have completed all steps in the application process. Final decisions are sent via U.S. Postal Service to applicants living in the United States and are sent via email to all other applicants.
Any offer of admission by NEC is considered conditional until all required official paperwork, including final transcripts with grades and date of degree(s) awarded, is received and reviewed by the Office of Admission.
Review of applications and subsequent admission status notification continues until all program openings are filled.
