Great artists give free concerts at New England Conservatory—simply because they teach here.

Roger Tapping celebrates his 50th birthday with a viola recital performed with old friends, colleagues and his wife, Peabody Trio member Natasha Brofsky.

The program will include works by Schumann, Berg, Loeffler, Brahms and Hindemith, as well as the premiere of a birthday piece by Reiko Yamada.

Joining Tapping this evening will be his long-time recital partner, pianist Judith Gordon, BSO oboist Keisuke Wakao, mezzo-soprano Krista River, and Brofsky, cello.
