Since 2003 New England Conservatory and the ProQuartet-European Center for Chamber Music (ProQuartet-CEMC) have collaborated in a unique exchange program for exceptional young chamber ensembles. Each year two string quartets, one from ProQuartet-CEMC and one from NEC, are selected to participate in a week-long residency abroad. These special residencies comprise mentorship, coaching, and rehearsal, and each culminates in a featured recital in Boston and France respectively.
Tonight’s concert featuring Quatuor Zaïde represents the fruit of this collaboration. In May, NEC’s Harlem Quartet, currently enrolled in NEC’s prestigious Professional String Quartet Training Program, will travel to ProQuartet’s academy in France for a parallel week of study and performance.

Quatuor Zaïde, which consists of violinists Charlotte Juillard and Pauline Fritsch, violist Sarah Chenaf, and cellist Juliette Salmona, has been winning international acclaim and awards since their formation in 2009, notably taking first prize at the Charles Hennen International Competition in Holland in 2010. The ensemble has been in residence at the Aix-en-Provence summer academy and festival and most recently played Wigmore Hall in London. Up next for the quartet, they will perform their debut concert at the Berlin Philharmonic in 2012.

While in Boston, Quatuor Zaïde will also perform at the French Cultural Center on January 24.
