Viennoiseries: Austrian Music in the
Stylus Phantasticus from the 17th century

Revelatory violin virtuoso Amandine Beyer brings her exciting chamber ensemble for their BEMF début in a captivating program featuring some of the peculiar personalities of the Austrian Baroque: the son of a baker whose virtuosity on the violin raised him to the nobility, a harpsichordist who traversed Europe to meet the greatest musicians of his time, a violinist from Italy who murdered a singer at the Messina Cathedral, and a Bohemian violinist who imitated all the sounds of nature with his instrument. These masters and more contributed to the inventive genre of the Stylus Phantasticus, which is explored in this program.

Amandine Beyer, violin; Baldomero Barciela, viola da gamba; Francesco Romano, theorbo & Baroque guitar; Anna Fontana, harpsichord & organ
