Trumpet. Often used for solo passages in ceremonial circumstances, this is the highest pitched instrument of this family; equally at home in jazz or classical surroundings; commonly used for marches, wedding processionals, graduations, etc.; offers a very regal sound.

Trombone. Middle range of the brass family; played by moving a slide; used for jazz and classical music.

Horn. Coiled brass instrument; has a large range and a mellow, colorful sound.

Tuba. The lowest pitched of the brass family; this hefty coil of metal is comparable to the string bass in the strings family.
