Julia Hawkins has been a dedicated teacher of students of all ages for over forty years, and has taught at the NEC Preparatory School for more than 20 years.  As a former faculty member of Dana Hall, she performed solo recitals and formed the Chafee/Hawkins Piano Duo.  This duo received a grant to perform many concerts in public schools as well as performances throughout New England.

Hawkins is the Musical Director of the Theatre Company of Boston and Director of Old South Music Camp. She is also an active member of NEPTA, where she presents students in recitals.  Hawkins also presents several student solo and duet recitals each year at the Brookline Public Library, Steinart Hall, and NEC studio recitals.  Her priorities as a teacher include music pedagogy and developing performance skills.

Hawkins has been Program Director and Vice-President of the Brookline Library Music Association for since 2002.  Each year she selects artists to perform in the Library’s Concert Series, which has become a noted performance venue for young professional artists.
