Arts in Education, M. Ed. Candidate '16, Harvard Graduate School of Education
Elise Seymour, vocalist, music educator, and special education advocate, graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.A. in Music Education and Spanish. As the Education Assistant at the Charlotte Symphony, she served as both coordinator and teaching artist for their El Sistema-inspired program. In addition, she developed curriculum based on storytelling and composition as part of a partnership with the Charlotte Symphony, Opera Carolina, NC Dance Theatre, and Charlotte school system.
In 2012, Elise was selected as a Sistema Fellow at NEC where she explored how music unites communities. During her month-long residency in Venezuela, she focused her work on the inclusive programs offered for students with special needs. After the fellowship, Elise moved back to Charlotte and returned the classroom as a general music teacher, where she continues her passion of bringing music education to every child in classrooms that reach every learner.
