New England Conservatory celebrated the largest graduating class in its history on May 21, 2023 at Symphony Hall, awarding honorary degrees to George E. Lewis, Ann Hobson Pilot, and David Zinman. The 152nd Commencement ceremony featured remarks from Lewis as well as Alumni Speaker Mei-Ann Chen ’95, ’98 MM and Student Speaker Brittany Bryant ’23.  
Chad Smith ‘95 NEC/Tufts, ‘98 MM returns to Boston from the LA Philharmonic, where he has served as Chief Executive Officer since 2019.
New England Conservatory’s Jazz Studies Department has appointed renowned flutist, saxophonist and composer Anna Webber to join the NEC faculty as Co-Chair of the Jazz Studies Department beginning in the fall of 2023.
One of the first undergraduates in NEC history to receive a Fulbright fellowship, vocal performance major Brittany Bryant ’23 travels to Enna, Italy this fall to pursue Italian linguistic studies. Bryant spoke with her Italian professor and mentor, Francesca Santovetti, about her linguistics journey and how NEC helped her prepare for the Fulbright Fellowship.

NEC's 152nd Commencement will include remarks by composer & musicologist George E. Lewis, Commencement Speaker, and conductor Mei-Ann Chen, Alumni Speaker, with Honorary Degrees conferred upon Lewis as well as harpist Ann Hobson Pilot and conductor David Zinman.  
Evren Ozel '21, '23 MM is among the latest musicians to receive the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, along with NEC Prep alum Emi Ferguson.
NEC honors the legacy of Marylou Speaker Churchill with a first-ever award in her name. Churchill served on the faculty of NEC's College and Preparatory programs for 28 years and was the principal second violinist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Eight NEC students, spanning jazz, Contemporary Musical Arts, and chamber music, spent the Panama Jazz Festival teaching hundreds of students, visiting the U.S. Embassy, and performing for a crowd of 30,000 spectators.
