News from NEC students, alumni, and faculty members including Andreia Pinto Correa, Billy Hart, Jenny Ahn, Jonathan Swensen, Geneva Lewis, Zlatomir Fung, Olivia Wilkins-Becker, Anthony Coleman, Katherine Balch, and Roberto Poli, plus other recent wins. 

Two rising stars from the NEC community have signed to the Opus 3 Artists roster, a career management group for the performing arts: violinist Maria Ioudenitch '20 MM, '22 AD, and cellist Gabriel Martins '21 MM.

Congratulations to Dr. Ian Howell ‘16 DMA, Voice Faculty and Vocal Pedagogy Director at NEC, for his achievement in winning the 2022 Van Lawrence Fellowship, an international award for interdisciplinary work in voice science and applied voice.

The partnership marks a series of firsts: the first performance of the orchestra at Jordan Hall on March 27, the debut of Music Director and NEC alumnus Joshua Weilerstein, and the start of administrative and composition fellowships between NEC and the Orchestra.

The NEC community came together to celebrate and reflect on a unique artist integral to NEC's Jazz history. 

Praised for her dynamic and passionate conducting style, Taiwanese American conductor and NEC alumna Mei-Ann Chen ’95, ’98 MM is acclaimed for infusing orchestras with energy, enthusiasm and high-level music-making, galvanizing audiences and communities alike. Ms. Chen came to the United States to study violin in 1989 and became the first student in New England Conservatory’s history to receive master’s degrees simultaneously in both violin and conducting.

Congratulations to NEC Composition faculty member, Kati Agócs, for her 2022 Juno Award nomination for Classical Composition of the Year.
