From the Department
We invite you to join us on a journey exploring a wide diversity of musical styles, historical settings, geographical locations, and cultural contexts. In creating an innovative and integrative curriculum where historical context, musical detail, visceral sound, and critical thought converge, our goal is to help you find your unique voice in thinking through, communicating, writing, and creating emerging narratives of music history. The experience of being an active, hands-on creator of emerging stories about music will help you perform your music. You will be moved and motivated with the knowledge and awareness of all that music was, is, and can be, and armed with the confidence to shape, through your music, the landscape of society.
