NEC’s vocal performance program prepares 21st-century artists for the rigorous demands of a professional career in music. You will receive thorough technical training from renowned voice faculty in private studio lessons, acquire detailed knowledge of the repertoire and styles from the early Baroque to the present, enhance your knowledge of singing languages and diction, and build your resume by performing as a solo artist and in large and small ensembles at NEC and throughout Boston’s rich vocal community.

As chair of voice at NEC, I am honored to oversee the remarkable collaborative work of our world-renowned voice faculty as we train and prepare the next generation of international vocal performing artists. We bring the love, passion, and enthusiasm from our combined 150+ years of international performing and teaching experience to every lesson, every studio performance class, and every interaction with the aspiring young artists we have the privilege to work with. Empowering our students with the skills and knowledge to discover, cultivate, and master their unique voices to become complete, self-reliant 21st-century performing artists is our mission.

    Soprano Yeonjae Cho ’24 AD as the Queen of the Night sings the demanding aria “Der Hölle Rache” from the second act of Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte) live in NEC’s Jordan Hall. NEC’s opera studios put on three full-length operas each year.
