Aldo Abreu, Baroque Department Chair

Faculty Directory: Baroque

The NEC Preparatory School offers an array of Baroque Ensembles, classes, private lessons, and chamber groups. In the Baroque department, students learn Baroque technique and aesthetic as they play repertoire composed before 1750. Students play on modern instruments — you can bring your own, no need to buy a period instrument!

Private Lessons

Private instruction is the foundation of a sound musical education. At NEC Prep, the depth and expertise of our faculty assure a great match for our students' individual needs. Private lessons of 30, 45, and 60 minutes are offered for students of all levels (including beginners!). Prospective Baroque recorder, harpsichord, and violin students must set up an audition or placement interview with their respective department chair or coordinator, who will advise each student personally regarding an appropriate studio teacher placement and path of study. For information on teacher placement interviews and scheduling an appointment for Baroque, please contact the Prep office.

Baroque Concerto Competition

The Baroque Department holds an annual Baroque Concerto Competition! In even-numbered years, the competition is open to Woodwind and Brass players. In odd-numbered years, the competition is open to Voice students. The winner of the competition performs as soloist with the Baroque Chamber Orchestra.

17-18 Baroque Aria Competition: Application is due October 14, 2017!
