The future of music, made here.

Piano

Student playing piano.

Study with renowned pianists who will guide you in the development of your art across a wide range of repertoire. Perform frequently as a soloist in an array of settings — including recitals, masterclasses, and concerto competitions — and collaborate with talented peers and distinguished faculty coaches in chamber music.

The traditional private lesson is vital in our curriculum, and all students receive lessons from a senior teacher. You will also participate in piano studio classes, masterclasses with NEC faculty and visiting artists, solo and concerto competitions, and festivals.

Bruce Brubaker and HaeSun Paik

As a piano student, you will work with our internationally renowned faculty and receive lessons from a senior teacher — not from an assistant or surrogate. You will participate in masterclasses with NEC faculty and such visiting artists as Emanuel Ax, Richard Goode, Murray Perahia, Menahem Pressler, András Schiff, and Fou T’song. You will learn by participating in chamber music ensembles and by interacting with colleagues both within and outside the major.

In 2023, the theme was “A Fine Balance: Piano Music by Women and Men,” inspired by the observation that Fanny Mendelssohn and Peter Tchaikovsky both wrote a series of 12 pieces, each one representing a month in the calendar.
