Artist(s)

Anthony Braxton is an American composer, saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, and educator whose work bridges jazz, contemporary classical and experimental music. Emerging in the late 1960s as a member of the Association of Creative Musicians (AACM), Braxton quickly gained attention for his adventurous improvisations, complex compositional systems, and use of multiple reed instruments. His 1969 solo album For Alto was a groundbreaking statement for unaccompanied saxophone, influencing generations of improvisors. Over his prolific career, Braxton has recorded hundreds of works ranging from jazz standards to large-scale operas. A MacArthur Fellow and former professor at Wesleyan University, he is celebrated for expanding the possibilities of improvised and composed music alike.
