New England Conservatory alumnus Evren Ozel ’17 Prep, 21, ’23 MM, ’25 AD, who won Third Prize and the award for the Best Performance of a Mozart Concerto at the 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, released a recording in July that features performances of two of Mozart’s piano concertos — No. 9 in E-flat major, K. 271, “Jenamy,” and No. 12 in A major, K. 414 — with conductor Howard Griffiths and the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. The album was released on the Alpha Classics label.
“It was an absolute joy to work with Maestro Griffiths and the ORF RSO-Wien,” Ozel said. “Even with the hours of recording, it felt as though nobody lost even an ounce of inspiration or verve. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to work on these two glorious Mozart concertos with them and was very pleased to hear the results when the CD came out!”
Ozel earned his artist diploma through NEC’s Institute for Concert Artists and studied with Wha Kyung Byun. He received a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2023 and is an artist in residence at The Bowers Program at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Ozel is represented by the Concert Artists Guild, at whose 2021 Victor Elmaleh Competition he was awarded an ambassador prize.
