Artist(s)
Stephanie A. Muñoz was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, and moved to Boston in 2012 to pursue graduate studies in saxophone performance. She is a proud alumna of the New England Conservatory (MM ’15, GD ’17) and holds a Bachelor of Music Education (K–12) from New Mexico State University (2012).
Soon after arriving in Boston, Stephanie became deeply engaged in the city’s music education community. She served as a teaching fellow through NEC and worked as a teaching artist with organizations including Young Audiences of Massachusetts and The Metropolitan Opera, while also maintaining her own private lesson studio.
Stephanie’s Mexican heritage and bilingualism are among her greatest strengths, allowing her to build authentic connections with students and families and to serve her community with cultural pride. She is currently in her ninth year of teaching at Margarita Muñiz Academy, the only bilingual public high school in New England. Four years ago, she founded the school’s Steel Pan and Latin Percussion Ensemble, creating a program that brings together music, history, culture, and performance in innovative and meaningful ways.
Through her teaching and musicianship, Stephanie is committed to creating spaces where students can explore their identities, connect with their cultural heritage, and experience the transformative power of music.
Stephanie is an NEC Institute for Teaching Artistry Scholar-in-Residence for the 2026-2027 academic year.
