NEC Concert Artist Yunchan Lim’s ’26 AD recording of Chopin’s Études is the most popular of 2024 on Apple Music Classical. The pianist received the coveted Diapason d’Or de L’année award in the Young Talent category from the French magazine Diapason for the recording, which won in the piano category of Gramaphone’s Classical Music Awards, where Lim was recognized as Young Artist of the Year.

With this recording, released on Decca Classics in April, the “prodigiously gifted young pianist confirms he’s something special,” the Guardian said.

“When Music speaks, everyone understands,” Lim said in a press release upon being named an Apple Music Classical Artist Ambassador in January. “This is the message I like to share through my music — and this is possible thanks to Apple Music Classical.”

In 2022, Lim, who studies at NEC with Minsoo Sohn ’99, ’01 GD, ’04 AD, became the youngest-ever winner of the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition at age 18. Lim made his Boston Symphony Orchestra and Carnegie Hall debuts this past February.
